Porsche Supercup Championship Leaders Henzler, Farnbacher Join SCCA SPEED GT For Infineon
SCCA Pro Racing Ltd. announced today that 2003 Porsche Supercup Championship winner, and current series leader, Farnbacher Racing will compete in the SCCA SPEED World Challenge GT event at Infineon Raceway.
The team brings weighty credentials to SCCA SPEED GT. Following Farnbacher’s second worldwide Supercup Championship last year, new driver Wolf Henzler, 29, has thoroughly dominated Supercup action thus far in 2004, winning six out of seven Supercup events, and beating out Porsche factory drivers in the process.
“We have competed in Europe since Farnbacher’s beginning in the 1980s,” Farnbacher USA, Inc. President Peter Goebel said. “We looked for the best venue for us to enter the United States market and decided the most cost effective way for us to come in was through SCCA World Challenge.
“We also feel the synergy with the SCCA and ALMS relationship is very good in terms of potential sponsorship,” Goebel continued. “We want to test our abilities at Infineon, and I know Wolf is excited to run here. He is well known in Europe and hopefully this will give him the opportunity to become better known internationally.”
Goebel said the plan for this season is to compete at Infineon and then again at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in October.
“That is what we are planning for now, and then, hopefully, have a three-team, full effort ready for World Challenge next year,” Goebel said.
Farnbacher USA, Inc., founded in 2003 by Goebel, is a new venture of its parent company, Autohaus Farnbacher, which is located in Lichtenau, Germany.
