Di Leo Takes Point Lead To Infineon
After three podiums in three events in the Star Mazda North American Championship presented by Goodyear, 22-year old Daniel Di Leo (Select Auto Collision / WTF Solutions / Autosports Media No.19) will look to keep his podium streak alive this coming weekend. Di Leo and his Star Race Cars team will head to round No.4 at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA looking for the rookie’s second victory in 2004 and an extended point advantage in the series championship.
The Markham, ON resident enters the event as the top runner in the Rookie of the Year honors as well as the current point leader in the overall series championship. Looking to continue with the momentum from the first three rounds, Di Leo will look to be on pace early and take the pole on the challenging circuit. “We have been running up front all year,” stated the Canadian. “I await the challenges that Infineon will present and can’t wait to over come them and extend my point lead.” Di Leo currently leads his nearest rival by 26 points.
Di Leo started off the season in fine form sweeping the opening round in Sebring, FL with a track record pole run and the victory. Battling handling problems at Mid-Ohio, the talented Rookie put together a gutsy run to take the final step on the podium. With no time off between events the series headed to Lime Rock Park where Daniel and his Star Race Cars teammate took the first two podium positions. Now heading to Infineon, with the largest car field in series history expected, Di Leo will look to impress once again and show the motorsports world who the next North American open wheel star will be.
