The FIA World Council gave its seal of approval to the European Championship at its meeting on December 8. The Championship will have two classes – STC (Super Touring Car) and SPC (Super Production Car), with drivers and teams titles available for each class.
The races will accompany the FIA GT Championship events as part of the Eurosport Super Racing Weekends. Eurosport will devote time on Saturdays to live coverage of STC Qualifying, plus highlights of SPC Qualifying. On Sundays, the first STC race will be seen as highlights, with 90 minutes devoted to live coverage of the second STC race and the single SPC race (70 km).
STC Qualifying will count for the grid of the first 50 km race, but the second race (same length) will see a reversed grid, based on race one results. Win the first one and you start from the back in race two. Engines will be marked and must be used for a minimum of two race meetings. Regulations are other wise as per current Super Touring events.
SPC regs. are as per current series. 220 bhp should be the norm.
The FIA GT events will feature 30 minutes on Eurosport on Saturday, with one to two hours of live and recorded coverage of the race.
