Cadillac Finishes Fourth At Mosport International Raceway Angelelli, Pilgrim And Fellows Fight Traffic And Light Rain On Saturday
The General Motors' Cadillac CTS-V racing team finished fourth on Saturday at Mosport International Raceway for Round 6 of the SPEED World Challenge GT Championship. The result is yet another top-four finish in Cadillac's quest for the 2004 Manufacturers' championship.
"The fans saw some great racing today," said Karen Rafferty, marking manager for Cadillac V-series and motorsports. "We had some adverse conditions but I think the team did a great job to prepare three very good race cars. We've got some work to do but we have another opportunity to improve our position in tomorrow's race."
Starting from the pole position, Max Angelelli held third position and looked set to finish on the podium. Team members did a fantastic job to prepare the No.16 Cadillac CTS-V. Just one week ago, the team stripped the car completely back to its chassis in order to repair damages from Portland. In today's race, Angelelli ultimately finished fourth after a late race incident where a slower, lapped car held him up.
"I wish I could have been able to finish on the podium for Cadillac today," said Angelelli, driver of the No.16 Cadillac CTS-V. "I was caught up by lapped traffic and the Viper got a better line and passed."
Ron Fellows qualified third but was forced to start at the back of the pack, from pit lane, after the No.12 CTS-V did not roll out to the grid in time. The Canadian marched through the pack, from 22nd position, finishing ninth in an impressive display of driving. Although it was a disappointing result for the champion driver, he is looking forward to Sunday's qualifying session and race.
"It was disappointing to start from pit lane," said Fellows. "We didn't know we had to leave pre-grid in order, but apparently we made a mistake. It was frustrating to catch the lead cars but then not be able to pass."
Andy Pilgrim had another exciting race, fighting tooth and nail with four cars throughout the majority of the race. After starting eight, Pilgrim finished an impressive fifth.
"This was the closest, toughest sprint race I've ever been a part of," said Pilgrim. "In the company we were racing, a fifth place finish is great for us. We'll have some additional weight for tomorrow's qualifying and race, but it will be manageable."
