Di Leo Finishes Second At Mosport
Di Leo Maintains His Point Lead In Canada
Ontario resident Daniel Di Leo competed at this weekend’s Star Mazda event at the legendary Mosport International Raceway. Di Leo who led the title chase heading into the event was looking to take his Pro Mazda to the front and continue his podium streak to maintain his overall point lead in the hunt to secure the series championship.
After being at the top of the charts for the entire Thursday and Friday test sessions, Di Leo proved to continue his quick speed by qualifying second for the Saturday afternoon event. Focused and ready to win every time on the track, the talented Canadian was looking forward to the start of the only stop north of the border in this year’s championship.
The series point leader finished second with his sixth straight trip to the podium giving up minimal points to the eventual race winner. Di Leo was happy with the result as he set the fastest lap of the weekend as he tried to find a way around his Star Race Cars teammate. “It was frustrating as I tried everything I could over those final four laps to get around Michael,” Di Leo explained. “I would get a run down the back straight and as soon as I would pop, I would hit the rev-limiter and loose all my momentum.”
Di Leo stalked the leader over the final five laps but was unable to find away by. “On the last lap I could have made an aggressive move to try to take the top spot but at this point in the season, with the points lead I have, it wouldn’t make sense to do that.”
