Cadillac Wins At Mosport
Local Hero Fellows Gives Fans Wire-to-Wire Thrill Ride
The General Motors' Cadillac CTS-V racing team took a decisive victory at Mosport International Raceway on Sunday. Ron Fellows won Round 7 of the SPEED World Challenge GT Championship in the No.12 CTS-V, putting Cadillac within two points of the manufacturers' championship with three rounds remaining in 2004.
"What a difference 24 hours makes," said Karen Rafferty, marketing manager for Cadillac V-series and motorsports. "Yesterday we ran hard but ultimately did not finish where we wanted. Today changed all of that and our strategy of putting Ron Fellows in the No.12 Cadillac paid off the way we hoped it would. We're closing in on the manufacturers' crown."
Starting from the pole position, Fellows got off to a great start and held the top position for the entirety of the race. The local hero held off two Corvettes and crossed the finish line first; Andy Pilgrim finished fourth in the No.8 Cadillac and Max Angelelli captured fifth in his No.16 car.
"This was a lot of fun to be able to race the Cadillac in front of my home crowd," said Fellows, driver of the No.12 Cadillac CTS-V. "Running 30 laps yesterday helped me to get a feel for this type of racing and to get even more comfortable with the car. Max and Andy really helped me to figure out how to get a good jump on the standing starts. The CTS-V is a lot of fun to drive-it's got great brakes and it corners well. It's been a hectic weekend and the most peace and quiet I've had has been in the car."
Andy Pilgrim had yet another top-four finish and moved up to third in the drivers' championship.
"It was a fierce race with many cars on the grid and I was trying my absolute hardest to keep up with Lou Gigliotti," said Pilgrim. "It was a clean race and I had a very hard-fought fourth place finish. I'm happy for the team and happy for Cadillac that we're back in the hunt for the manufacturers' championship."
