Huff Takes Fifth And Sixth At Knockhill
Rob Huff proved the sensation of today’s second race of the Green Flag MSA British Touring Car Championship at Knockhill coming from the back of the grid to finish 6th, at the end of an action packed 24-lapper at the Fife circuit. The 24 year-old from Cambridge was forced out of a possible podium finish in the day’s opening race after a collision with James Thompson on the third lap forced him off the track and broke his front splitter and damaged the radiator on his SEAT Toledo Cupra.
Starting from the back of the grid for the second race, Rob made short work of the track and his rivals and was up into 12th place by the end of the first lap and after battling hard with Anthony Reid and Luke Hines, crossed the line in an impressive 6th place.
“That second race was mega,” said Rob. “I had a fantastic start and got past two or three drivers off the line and then a couple more on the first lap. From then on I just started making my way past them one by one. I had a great race with Anthony Reid and we swapped positions a couple of times and also with Luke Hines - it was just good clean racing. I just wanted to get a decent result and secure a good grid slot for the final race. I think I even got as high as fourth at one point which isn’t a bad effort considering I started from the back of the grid. Anyone who says you can’t overtake at Knockhill has been proved wrong this afternoon!”
Starting the final race from 6th on the grid, Rob then enjoyed a thrilling race to take 5th at the flag, and post the race fastest lap, despite being held up trying to overtake. “I didn’t get the best start in the world,” said Rob. “But I had a better start than Luke Hines and was past him into the first corner. On the first few laps the Vauxhalls were holding up the rest of the field quite a bit, so as Jason was pulling away I was getting held up trying to overtake. It was a really hard race and I had a few close battles and grassy moments thanks to other drivers as I was right in the thick of it. It was a really tough race and I had to work really hard.”
