2001 Shaping Up To Be A Classic Year |

It’s still early days, but the 2001 Privilege Insurance British GT Championship should see a minimum of 30 cars on the grid at every race. The quality of the entries will be of the highest standard, easily justifying the description of the championship as the best domestic GT series in the world.
A Saleen entry will definitely be on the grid, with Ultima also expected to join the regular marques - Lister, Marcos, TVR, Porsche, Lotus, Chrysler, Ferrari – in the GT class. Precise numbers of each are hard to pin down at this stage, with three months still to go before the first race.
As many as 10 Porsche GT3Rs and GT3RSs will rise to the challenge of the TVR Tuscan Rs, with Marcos GTOs, a Ferrari 356 and a Chrysler Viper completing the probable / definite runners in GTO. This class is fulfilling its role as the affordable class for the future, but the GTs will also be providing a brilliant show at the front.
"We are very excited about the response from competitors for PowerTour in 2001. We appreciate just how hard the teams and drivers are working on their plans. It is going to be quite a show!" says Roger Etcell, BMP series director. The support races are likely to be very well subscribed too. PowerTour will demonstrate just how far it has come in a year when the track opens for the first race at Silverstone on March 31 / April 1.
