Grand American Road Racing and Hoosier Tyre Make Historic Three-Year Tyre Deal
Grand American Road Racing Association and Hoosier Racing tyre Corp. announced a three-year agreement today that will make Hoosier the Official tyre of Grand American Road Racing for the 2005 through 2007 seasons. All classes in the Rolex Sports Car Series and Grand-Am Cup Series will compete exclusively on Hoosier tyres, making Hoosier the only tyre company to supply two major American road racing championships during the same period.
Rolex Series teams will have several opportunities to try out the new rubber, as organized tests are planned later this year leading up to the prestigious Rolex 24 At Daytona in 2005. Grand-Am Cup Series teams have competed exclusively on Hoosier tyres since the series was founded in 2001.
“Hoosier is the largest racing tyre manufacturer in the world, and I am convinced that they are fully equipped to supply tyres for the Rolex Sports Car Series and the Grand-Am Cup Series,” said Grand American President Roger Edmondson. “After visiting the Hoosier plant in Indiana, I am thoroughly pleased with Hoosier’s quality and procedures. And with the success we’ve had developing tyres for the Grand-Am Cup Series over the past few years, I know that Mike Kraemer and the rest of the Hoosier engineering crew will be great partners as we bring the Hoosier brand into the Rolex Series.”
“We are very pleased to be a part of the evolution of American road racing,” said Bob Newton, CEO and President of Hoosier Racing Tyre Corporation. “Hoosier is excited about the opportunity to demonstrate our potential in a world class program. Our philosophy and Grand American’s are the same. We are single-minded when it comes to racing.”
As part of the agreement, Hoosier will be participating in a range of marketing programs aimed at rewarding competitors and raising awareness of the series and the sport among American race fans. Edmondson noted that a promotional campaign is currently being readied that will bring news and information about sports cars and road racing to a broader audience. Hoosier will also be named the title sponsor of the Rolex Series Pacesetter Program, which provides more than a half million dollars a year to top teams.
