Loeb And Elena World Rally Champions Again
They’ve done it! Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena are the 2005 World Rally Champions. The runners up spot in this weekend’s Rally Japan secured their second successive world crown and prompted party scenes at Citroën rally service HQ.
Loeb’s eight points, combined with an impressive fourth place (five points) for Duval and Smeets in the second Xsara, were another step forward for Citroën in the manufacturers’ championship. With only three rallies to go the Citroën team are 23 points clear of their nearest competitors and within touching distance of their own double success.
Commenting on his championship glory Sébastien Loeb, said: "We have reached the first peak of what has practically been a perfect season by sewing up our second Drivers’ title with three rounds still to come. Each time out, Citroën has given us a competitive and reliable car. This triumph is also theirs and we now intend to do all we can to make sure the team keeps the Manufacturers’ title. They really deserve it."
