It's very early days for this car (one race into its career) but it's already causing quite a stir.
The Saleen crew at Laguna Seca were sure that they didn't want photographs taken in the paddock / awning, which is understandable as the car only seems to have been accepted by the ACO for 2001, so far. But indications are that one will appear in the Privilege Championship next year, where regulations exist to penalise any car that has a performance advantage.
So what does the man who has won eight Privilege races in 2000 think of the prospect of the Saleen as competition? "Send it along, I can't wait," said Laurence Pearce. "Let's see it do a 1:48 round the GP track."
Pearce was as bullish as ever about his prospects in the UK next year. "We had eight wins but we threw away the Championship. But I've got a great deal to run one car next year." He added the proviso that, "I'm sponsored by Michelin and if we can't run their tyres, we won't be doing it." |
