The talented Englishman may have lost his seat with the GM Corvette team, but he’s looking to move into the prototype class for 2001, with the customer Panoz Roadsters to be run by Dave Sims. The two 2000 model Roadsters should make their debut at Sebring, running in the green and yellow colours of the Westward Racing Group. The chassis are thought to be the two Adelaide cars.
Sim’s team, Lanesra, takes its name from a reversal of his favourite football club – Arsenal. So perhaps we can expect one of the Roadsters to slip ahead in ‘injury time’ and secure a narrow 1-0 victory.
Jay Cochran will head up the driving squad, with Bell and Peter Boss in line for two other seats. Bell has 962 experience at Le Mans, where his French experience should have begun in 1991 with a Spice-Ferrari. That effort ended up with a dismal non-qualification (big engine blow up), and his career then turned towards the F1 GTR McLaren, Vipers and the Corvette.
An almost full ALMS schedule, plus Le Mans, are on the Westward Racing Group / Lanesra programme.
