Cindi Lux, the inaugural 1999 Women’s Global GT Series Champion, continues to forge ahead with her sportscar career. She will be at Daytona this week for the Test Days, driving a brand new SRPII Pilbeam MP84 Nissan entered by Pilbeam Racing America.
This will be Cindi’s first entry into open cockpit racing, although she’s no stranger to top line events, having competed at the Petit Le Mans last year. With Belinda Endress and Divina Galica, Cindi finished fifth in class at Road Atlanta, in what turned out to be a torrid event for some of the men in the GT class.
“Needless to say, I was very interested and intrigued when Pilbeam Racing America called about having me drive their new SRPII car. It is a relatively new car in the United States, however the results in Europe have been very impressive,” she said. “I’m real excited to not only have the opportunity to drive the Pilbeam, but also to be able to help introduce it to the U.S. market. This is another advancement in my career to be able to step up to the SRPII class with the caliber of car of the Pilbeam.”
Alfred Kobacker, CEO of AP Sports Group Inc., parent of Pilbeam Racing America, explained that, “Pilbeam Racing America is working to develop an outstanding program for sports car racing and we’re bringing it first to the U.S. Grand-Am Series. Testing Cindi in the car is something we wanted to try and we’re looking forward to this weekend at Daytona.”
A television feature on Cindi Lux and her Petit Le Mans team-mates is scheduled to air in late January 2001 on the Oxygen channel.
