AMERICAN LE MANS SERIES |
12/01/2001 |
Champion Audi R8 |
Who's Driving? |
|
Despite names being mentioned in connection with this drive, it may be a little early to confirm the actual line up. Champion are likely to devote most of their attention to this car after the Rolex 24. Their Lola Porsche is sitting pretty prior to the 24 Hours, and once that event is over, the crew will head to Germany to learn all about their new, all German machine. This will run the full ALMS series of events, while the Lola B2K / 10 will run almost the full Grand Am schedule.
So there are benefits to having two series in the USA - a top class entry in each, from one team. Horses for courses.
Update: 12 hours later and Andy Wallace confirms that "it's finally sorted for me to drive the Champion Audi R8 in the American rounds of the ALMS. I'm really looking forward to this season. Dyson Racing at Daytona and selected Grand-Am events, the Apex Motorsport run Bentley EXP Speed 8 at Le Mans, and the Champion Audi R8 for the ALMS! Lucky boy! This should be quite a year."
Perhaps Andy wouldn't have used that expression to describe 2000.
Dorsey Schroeder will partner him in the Audi R8.
