Going For Pole |
|
|
Martin Dixon, Team Manager at Intersport, felt the need to respond to James Weaver’s suggestion that pole for the Rolex 24 will be in the 1:39s.
“The only car that has ever recorded a lap time in the 1:39s was Bill Auberlen in Doran’s Ferrari, which was unrestricted. The only man close to this time at present is Jon Field, who set the fastest lap of the Test Days at a 1:40.4 - after only four laps at the start of the test. He then went on to turn five 1:40s in a row.
”Jon puts 110% into his driving and is the only driver that is close to getting into the 1:39s.”
So there we are. The gauntlet has been thrown down. James Weaver made that remark despite not being the quickest Dyson driver at the Tests. Andy Wallace actually set the 1:41.210 in #16, but clearly Dyson Racing were quite content to be seven tenths or so away from the quickest time, at that stage.
