Correction: it seems that Porsche will not be developing their new 996 twin-turbo road car for racing. Jurgen Barth is quoted in Motoring News as saying that, "There is nothing to stop our customer teams doing their own development work, but we cannot give them assistance."
He also explains that it would be "uneconomic" for Porsche to develop a car to beat the Vipers, suggesting that cutomer-developed 996 twin-turbos won't be able to take on the V10s. BW Motorsport clearly think differently, and they had interest from several potential customers when they unveiled their new car at Silverstone on August 20. |
