David Legangneux has been following up the plans of two other French teams, thanks to the detail provided by Auto Hebdo:
Didier Bonnet's team will use the BMW V8 engine (that was installed in Rafanelli’s R&S chassis in 1998) in his Debora. A change of rules has allowed the use of V8s in LMP675 from 2001, but the units will need considerable work to get them down to 3.4 litres. Bonnet’s car should have considerably more power and maybe 20 kg less weight, compared to the straight six BMW unit he has been using. Changes also for the brakes, with the use of carbon brakes from Carbone Industries.
Le Mans is Bonnet’s main target, but he is interested in the ELMS.
Gérard Welter's Welter Racing team will try to secure two entries again to this year's Le Mans. The 2001 car will be an evolution of the 2000 model, with more efficient cooling (there were some problems during last year's race) and some work on the engine (the goal is to have 30 bhp more than last year).
A WR could take part in the Jarama ELMS race. Yojiro Terada is a possible to continue with WR.
The team have been testing at Brétigny Test Flight Center and at Lurcy-Lévis recently, to learn how to use carbon brakes. Possible drivers: Stéphane Daoudi, Jean-René de Fournoux, Jean-Bernard Bouvet (pictured), Sylvain Boulay & Laurent Delahaye.
