Mike Quaife’s 4WD supercar was effectively outlawed from the Privilege Championship at the end of 1999, when the reign of the GT1s came to an end. But the car’s designer, Lester Ray, is “seriously looking at converting two of the cars to 2WD. The plan is to run a couple of them in the Interactive Sportscar Championship – we’re looking at suitable teams.”
“They can run in the ACO GTS category, much as the Saleen can. The ACO have their crash test rules, but we can get through that by using the procedure from the Harrier LR10 prototype. Converting them to 2WD will involve fitting a new front subframe, but if we use the LR10 subframe, the problem is solved.”
“Three teams are interested in the project, which can’t be based at Quaifes, but Mike is happy for the cars to be loaned out for a reasonable deposit. He wants to see them race.”
The first round of the ISC isn’t until May, so there’s plenty of time to convert the cars. “We could go testing now in 4WD form,” explained Lester Ray. He’s got another project on the go as well, details of which should be available within three weeks or so.
