Rowan Racing’s Martin O'Connell and Warren Carway are definite runners in the SR2 class of the new FIA SCC. They drove the Matrix Nissan in the SR1 class at Donington Park in 1999, but are anticipating being contenders for the ‘Junior’ title in 2001. “We know how tough the opposition can be in SR2 and we are under no illusions, but we feel that after the test programme this winter we will be in good shape to challenge the leaders from the first race,” said O’Connell.
Carway was even more positive: “Of course we intend to win the SR2 championship this year and the fact that Mike Pilbeam has already given us 'works' Pilbeam team status means that we are in the best possible position to achieve this. "
Redman Bright were the SR2 Champions in 2000, but they’re about to take delivery of their new Reynard for the SR1 Class. Testing should begin in early February.
Peter Owen and Mark Smithson will stay together in the Reynard and the Redman Bright team is currently in negotiations with drivers for their SR2 Pilbeam.
