Technical Debate |
|
A technical meeting at Triple 8’s base resolved some of the finer details of the 2001 regulations.
Vauxhall raised the subject of the fitment of a rear anti-roll bar to the Astra Coupé, but they were out-voted by non-Vauxhall teams present, which logically see the Vauxhalls as the early season favourites. The Coupé is testing in Spain today (Albacete), and is well advanced compared to anything else. The test is thought to last five days. Sodemo are building the engines for the Vauxhalls.
Downforce is an interesting part of the 2001 regulations. The cars are intended to ‘move around’ more than the cars of the previous era, and it seems that wind tunnel work will see the cars allocated a wing setting which can be reduced to lessen rear downforce, but the angle of the wing cannot be ‘steepened’ to increase rear grip.
RWD cars (Lexus / BMW) will not carry a weight penalty compared to FWD cars.
It appears that Peugeot may announce a fourth car to run alongside those of Steve Soper, Matt Neal and Dan Eaves.
