The MG Touring Car Project – due to join the BTCC later in the season – will be managed by West Surrey Racing and the drivers will be Anthony Reid and Warren Hughes.
For Hughes, it is the break he’s been waiting for for a long time. The pair also get to drive the Lola-designed MG Prototype at Le Mans. Reid drove for Ford in last year’s BTCC, when he finished runner-up in the title chase.
MG are also instigating a rally project, for the World and British Rally Championships.
“The MG brand has a great pedigree of success in motorsport,” said Rob Oldaker, Director of Product Development at the MG Rover Group. Our return to tarmac and gravel forms an integral part of our plans to re-energise the MG name, utilising the dynamic performance credentials of the product range.”
There seems to be no date set for the introduction of the X20 into the BTCC.
