Vauxhall had Jason Plato and Yvan Muller on hand at Albacete for their first running with the Astra Coupé. Heavy rain blighted the test, but Plato had a good run on Friday, completing 40 laps on a wet track.
The X-trac gearbox and AP brakes gave no trouble, which will be reassuring to other BTCC teams as they will be using the same components. This was also a first run on the BF Goodrich tyres that will be fitted to all of the cars.
Muller took over on Monday, when more rain fell. Vauxhall’s next test will be at Vallelunga next month. They’re currently well ahead of the rest of the potential 2001 entrants as far as their test and build programme goes.
