A source in Germany suggests that the Audi R8 for 2001 will be finished soon, and that it will be much more than a development of the current car. 'In many ways completely new,' was the expression used, not an evolution version. Other indications are that it will be an evolution. Wasn't the 2000 car an evolution of the original R8R? There are even clues that the 'new' car will run a four litre normally aspirated engine, rather than the current turbocharged 3.6 litre twin turbo. A red herring?
Next year's Le Mans Cadillac is meanwhile expected to be based around the existing tub, and continue to use the Northstar twin turbo, at least for 2001. One tub is already in the UK, for evaluation and design work to start under the guidance of Nigel Stroud. Audi seem to have the head start…
But perhaps Cadillac will switch tyre brands for 2001. The Corvettes have won on Goodyear rubber and the Northstar has already tested on Goodyears this year. Goodyear is GM's biggest OE supplier. |
