Panoz Motor Sports have issued a release that counters suggestions that they will run only one car in the shorter ALMS events.
Team owner Don Panoz confirmed on January 31 that his team will be competing in every round of the American Le Mans Series, including those which combine with the ELMS - Donington and Jarama.
Three new Panoz LMP-1 07 cars will be built and it is expected that the
team will be entering two cars for each race. Negotiations with a number of prospective sponsors are in an advanced stage and further announcements will be made as soon as these plans are finalized.
Talks are also being held in Europe regarding the entry of a factory supported Panoz into the European Le Mans Series.
Don Panoz explains: "The ELMS has received a very positive response in all three classes from the information sent out after the finalization and announcement of the prize fund and TV package. John Macdonald and his team are working hard with the contracted circuits to ensure that the European Le Mans Series follows the lead set by the ALMS in becoming the premier sports car racing series for competitors, drivers and sponsors alike. We want to be able to have a Panoz entry in Europe and are working hard on bringing that to fruition."
David Brabham, Jan Magnussen and Klaus Graf have been retained for the 2001 season and a further announcement about the remaining driver line-up will be made within the next ten days.
This well and truly counters any perceived lack of commitment from Panoz Motor Sports for 2001. Now we'll see whether other entrants get behind the ALMS and ELMS.
