Changes imminent? - Plus an unlikely GTO entry |
|
More than just speculation in the US indicates that the GTU class could have its name changed to GT, and regulations will be adjusted to allow in engines up to six liter displacement, with an exception allowed to include the Viper in this class. This should open things up to the likes of the Corvette C5, Corvette GTR, Mosler MT900, Mustang Cobra R, Chevy Camaro, Pontiac Firebird, Saleen Mustang etc. etc.
The control tire story seems to be getting closer to reality, with Goodyear likely to be compulsory fitment to the SR cars, although European entries would be treated differently.
Unrelated to the above, the prospect of the Gunnar Racing G99 appearing in SR2 has vanished as there will definitely be a 3 liter limit in this class. Kevin Jeannette indicates that "the only chance the G-99 has now is SR-1, but the Porsche 911 GT-1 is allowed in GTO. Maybe we'll take it to Daytona with our GT3-R." His customer definitely wants to run the GT-1 in the Rolex 24. |
