For Cirtek Motorsport, read a considerable number of other teams. Rob Schirle is never one to resist a challenge, but in which series will those challenges come?
Daytona and the dramas there have seen a change in plans, because the team’s 993 GT2 suffered a major impact early on. “We are concentrating on our two GT3Rs,” explains Schirle. “The car that has now finished both Adelaide and Daytona is being updated to incorporate 90% of the improvements made to the Barbour car; with the two cars side by side, it's easy to see why the Dick Barbour cars were so dominant.”
What now then? “We are going to be at the ALMS Atlanta test on the 17 / 18 with both of our GT3Rs and are keen to speak to any driver wishing to compete in the first round at Texas. The plan is to run one car only for Texas and then two cars for Sebring.”
Then what (Rob’s answer revealing the dilemma of where to run in 2001)? “With so many options for these cars with ELMS and ALMS, Privilege GT and Grand Am (don’t forget the Interactive series Rob, with a pair of GT2s, or have you dropped that idea?) we will keep our options open. I have already received interest for the ex-Barbour car to race in the UK. My preference would be Texas, Sebring and then the ELMS, with the British GT Championship as a back up.”
So Cirtek seem to be in the hands of those drivers who might wish to race for them. How do the drivers make that decision (regarding which series to go for)? It sometimes seems that drivers are the least informed about the potential of different championships, as they often have other commitments mid week – such as earning a living.
Rob Schirle fills in the gaps for 2001 by adding that, “both GT3Rs will be updated with brand new Porsche Motorsport 2001 spec.motors for this season and several other new components will be phased into the cars before the first ELMS race at Donington.” They ought to be highly competitive in both the ELMS GT class and Privilege GTO class.
