As already revealed, Monza will host the official test sessions and presentations of the 2001 FIA GT and European Touring Car Championships on March 7 / 8. Track time will be shared between the GT and the Touring cars.
The Thursday press conference will be presented by Angelo Codignoni (Eurosport’s Chief executive officer), Stéphane Ratel (Chairman of SRO and promoter of the FIA GT Championship), Mauro Sipz (Chaiman of KSO, the promoter of the European Touring Car Championship) and Christian Contzen (Renault Sport General Manager, organiser of the Renault F2000 Eurocup).
Eurosport’s support of both series should see them prosper this year, amidst a wave of media coverage.
Other GT News: Batti Pregliasco will be sharing the second JMB Ferrari Modena 360 with Marco Lambertini and Andrea Garbagnati.
Belgian team GLPK, who dominated the Belcar Championship last year, return to the FIA GT Championship with their Chrysler Viper GTS-R. Belgian Wim Daems has been confirmed, with his partner yet to be announced.
Racing Box return for another crack at the series. “We will run our Chrysler Viper GTS-R for Luca Cappellari and Gabriele Matteuzzi,” said team manager Mauro Felisatti.
The 2001 entry will start the season with a clean sheet of paper as regards restrictors and weight, that is, as they started the 2000 season.
