Alex Job Racing has confirmed that their ALMS cars are 2001 model 911 GT3RSs, not GT3Rs as shown on the initial entry list. Besides Michelin and Mobil 1 (former Barbour sponsors) the two cars will also be supported by the McKenna Automotive Group, a major southern California automotive retailer, with more outlets in Hawaii.
The AJR cars are based in the team's new, 10,000 square foot shop in Tavares.
"McKenna Automotive was an AJR associate sponsor during our 1999 championship season," said Alex Job. "We are thrilled to now have them aboard as title sponsor, and we are continuing our association with Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil and Michelin tires."
Randy Pobst and Sascha Maassen are joined by Lucas Luhr and Christian Menzel. Pobst, Luhr and Menzel won the GT class at Daytona less than two weeks ago, in a White Lightning Porsche. Pobst is seen with Bruno Lambert (above), celebrating their GT win at Mosport last year.
"Jeff Gamroth and Jim Higgs return as the crew chiefs for the new cars, and Greg Fordahl is once again our team engineer," said Job. "Having Greg, Jim and Jeff, plus a solid driver lineup, helps drain some of the pressure that comes from just moving into our new shop and working with two brand new race cars. They're a valuable asset."
"Many teams have Porsche 911 GT3RS cars this year, all with the same equipment we have. And this year we have to race against a second BMW team, and the new Callaway Corvette effort," Job said. "Our advantage is having four solid drivers and an experienced crew. The competition will make this year's championship more difficult to win, but when we do win it, that'll make it just that much more valuable."
With no Dick Barbour Porsches on the horizon, and BMW still re-grouping around the V8 M3, Job’s major, early season, rival may be the Petersen Motorsports Porsche. This car seems to have some Porsche support, as Bob Wollek and Johnny Mowlem appear in their line-up for Texas. Mowlem excelled in the lead Skea Porsche last year, while Wollek was assigned to Barbour during 2000.
Overall numbers may be down for Texas, but the quality is as good as you can find, and the bulk of the cars are / will be brand new.
