Scott Deware was sufficiently impressed with the Mosler MT900R at the Rolex 24, he’s bought it. The car qualified fastest in the GT class, but having started from the back of the grid, went out after four hours or so with lighting problems after losing two hoods. “We’re out because of crash damage,” explained Warren Mosler. “Frankly, we ran out of parts. We lost two hoods in two accidents and we didn’t have any more.”
Deware’s car will race in the second round of the Grand Am, the Nextel 250 at Homestead-Miami Speedway on March 3. Tommy Morrison, director of operations for the MT900 project, said the Deware team would receive full factory support throughout the 2001 Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series season. Morrison himself will serve as the team's manager.
Nine more race cars will be built this year, and “most are spoken for,” at an amazing price of $119 000. No wonder they’ve been snapped up. The team were working on spring rates and set up at the Rolex 24, and they were still fastest in both wet and dry conditions.
