PESCAROLO FOLLOW UP |
And the Le Mans gearbox |
|
David Legangneux has been following up the news from Pescarolo Sport at the Le Mans Technoparc.
He spoke with Jérôme Babarit and discovered that the team weren't at Magny-Cours for the SRWC race because the C52 had to be in Paris for the "Mondial de l'Automobile" at the same time.
The team's budget for next year is not yet at 25 millions francs. That's the goal for next year, to ensure the funding to support two entries.
The team will receive the Courage C60 chassis at the begining of November, with a 1st track test scheduled for mid-November. Work has already begun on a dummy of the engine's environment. The only problems are related to the turbos, rather than the Peugeot engine itself. The Nissan and the Judd were atmospheric engines.
The new X-trac gearbox will have 20 kg less overhanging so the car will have a better 'mass centreing'.
Which is a reminder of a tale from Le Mans, as told by William Hewland. "I sat avidly in front of the Le Mans coverage, generally elated for the superb efforts of Mr. Pescarolo. Some discomfort came when Martin Haven commented on the superb result for this `100% French car and team`. Well, you know what I am going to say..........the rear 1/3rd of the car is British!!
"I had a colourful few weeks negotiating with the affable Mr. P, prior to Le Mans regarding his underfunded team and its requirement for a fresh gearbox. I did him a good deal in the end and we hurriedly built up a fresh LSG, with just days to go. As you know they finished 4th without touching it. We are pleased with that!
"I was confident with the gearbox, so I leased it to him lap by lap!!!! I have come out of the deal quite well!"
David Legangneux provides the additional news that the team have finished a full scale 'model' of the car for wind tunnel work, and that the Xtrac gearbox should arrive before the end of October, so the first track test of the C60 is still planned for the beginning of November. Endurance testing of the engine is being carried out on a test rig.
The team have reached 40% of their goal for their 2001 budget. The drivers of the C60 are likely to be the C52 crew that performed so well this year - Clerico, Bourdais and Grouillard. Perhaps that will leave a berth for Henri in the C52? |
