Markus Eberhardt has spotted some Audi R8 2001 details in "Autobild Motorsport." They reveal the first details of the ‘new’ model, plus photographs. It’s not wildly different, as expected, but a longer wheelbase (10mm) has proved popular with the drivers; the handling is apparently improved as a result of the different front wishbones.
Other changes are smaller and lighter rear dampers, altered positioning of the coolers and intercoolers, and a modified engine (lighter, more torque). The centre of gravity is a little bit lower.
Aerodynamically, the car is thought to be the same as last year’s model, but some improvements are expected before the Le Mans Test Day. The 2001 cars will race at Texas for the first time. They look as though they’re going to be even more ready for Sebring / Le Mans this year.
