CASTROL BELCAR SPA |
Another Viper win |
|
Joost Custers was at Spa for the penultimate race of the season.
Even after winning six out of seven races, Kumpen and Cohen still aren't sure of their championship-crown. Vanierschot and Longin managed to overtake all but one car after a spin during the warm-up lap and by doing so, they forced the Viper team to keep the champagne in the refrigerator until the last race at Zolder on the 8th of October
With the GL-PK Viper on pole and alongside him the Marcos of PowerTour contenders Euser and Lockie, we had a very fast start. But a very spectacular crash for Cyriel Raes, right on the startgrid, immediately caused a three lap safety car situation.
After half an hour Kumpen was in the lead in front of Lockie, Kuismanen (Audi 80 Biturbo) and Freddy van Roey on the GL-PK Porsche 996. After his first stop, Euser got round in a very fast 2'26'' but before half distance the Marcos driver retired with gear troubles...…
The way to their sixth victory was now open for Cohen and Kumpen. Vanierschot made a fantastic return to second, helped by a puncture on the Van Roey-Geboers Porsche. The latter even lost the third spot on the overall podium to Kuismanen and Hasenbichler, who were winners of the touring class.
In the GTB-class, Bruynoghe and F-3000-driver Bas Leinders became race winners won the championship. Second and third in the race were the Porsches of Sturesson-Vertee and Van Renterghem-Hahn. We look forward to the last race at Zolder. |
