Champion Racing held a gala press launch on Friday evening, when the main news was the unveiling of their Audi R8 for the ALMS and Le Mans. Don Panoz was present.
Andy Wallace and Dorsey Schroeder will drive the car in the ALMS races. Wallace is in a Bentley at Le Mans, so the car will be driven there by Schroeder, Ralf Kelleners and Didier Theys. Kelleners joins the regular ALMS pair at Sebring, for the car’s second race in flamboyant Champion colours.
With the two factory Audis and the Johansson car, that should make four R8s at Le Mans. There was a suggestion two weeks ago that a further chassis would be entered by an Italian team, but that idea now seems to have been dropped.
The photograph above appears on the Champion website link, which displays more views from the launch party.
The Champion Lola project for the Grand Am series seems to have been abandoned in favour of a dedicated attack on the ALMS, starting at Texas.
