Jean-Philippe Belloc has been signed as Christophe Bouchut’s partner in the Larbre Competition Viper. “I think Christophe and I will complement each other,” said Belloc. “The fact that I know the Viper well and have driven it on many of the European tracks could be useful to the team.” Larbre start testing the car at Val de Vienne on February 27 / 28.
Wolfgang Kaufmann switches to the N-GT class this year. He seems to have mixed feelings about the prospect of less horsepower, even though he’ll be in a brand new 911 GT3RS. “I’d prefer to remain in the top class, but there is n real possibility of challenging for the lead in a Porsche 911 GT2. We saw last year that you have to rely too much on other people’s problems. In N-GT, we (Freisinger Motorsport) have a good chance, and good motivation, but we’ll have very little experience compared to the teams that competed last year.” His partner hasn’t been announced yet. The Russian pairing of Fomenko and Vassiliev will be in the team’s 911GT3R.
One of Freisinger’s N-GT rivals will be the EMKA GT3R. Tim Sugden will partner car owner Steve O’Rourke again. “We managed a few podiums last year, but we’d like to get a win in 2001. We’ll have Dunlop tyres rather than Pirelli, which might be a step forward.” The car has received a lot of attention over the winter, and has been “brought up to the latest specifications,” explained Sugden.
Michel Neugarten will drive a new GT3RS with Thierry Perrier at Perspective Racing. “I had various options, including racing in the GT class, but I eventually decided to race with Thierry. I raced for them in the 6 Hours of Vallelunga, which we won. I think Thierry will be within a second and a half of my lap times. We’re out to win the category.” The team are likely to enter a second car in the 24 Hours of Spa.
