We’ve known about the Wallace / Weaver / Leitzinger combination for some weeks, but the above named are now confirmed as the drivers of the other Bentley EXP Speed 8 for Le Mans.
This makes the overall line-up more experienced than youthful, the 26 year old Guy Smith being the youngest of the pack. Stéphane Ortelli’s name is no surprise, as he’s been connected with the project since development of the original Audi Coupé took place last year. Martin Brundle’s name is a surprise, if only because he went on the record after retiring a Toyota in 1999 as indicating that he didn’t want to go through all the testing again, for no reward. He wants to win.
So this entry has two former winners – plus last year’s Rookie Of The Year – and the other one has Andy Wallace (a former winner of course) and two of the most experienced sportscar drivers out there. Remember Toyota against BMW in ’99? This year is looking like Audi against Bentley, with a wild card from Panoz and their LMP07s.
It seems that Johhny Herbert's remarks about being in a Bentley were a little previous.
