The Speedvision Network has announced that live coverage of the Texas event will be preceded by a 30-minute program previewing the race and the 2001 ALMS season. The preview show will begin at 1:30 p.m. (EST).
Speedvision will be televising at least five ALMS races this season, including live flag-to-flag coverage of the series' two longest events, the Superflo 12 Hours At Sebring and the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. The network will also televise the Aug. 4 event from Portland, Ore., and the season finale event from North Carolina's Lowe's Motor Speedway on Oct. 21, as well as the Texas race.
In addition, the network will have complete live coverage of the Le Mans 24 Hours.
Terry Borcheller replaces the originally listed Neil Hanneman in the second American Viper racing GTS-R at Texas Motor Speedway. He shares the car with Erik Messley.
Johnny O’Connell takes the place of Chris Kneifel in the Ron Fellows-led Corvette C5-R at Texas. The Daytona winner was originally expected to drive in just the long distance events. Andy Pilgrim and Kelly Collins will drive the other Corvette C5-R, as expected.
The Owen Trinkler Corvette makes its long awaited ALMS race debut this weekend. The first privateer Corvette C5-R was at Road Atlanta for Spring Training 10 days ago (photo, above), where Jeff Altenberg remarked that, “right out of the box, the Trinkler Corvette was fast, very well-behaved, and I think it’s gonna be a winner shortly!”
B J Zacharias joins Trinkler and Altenberg for the car’s debut this weekend.
The team apparently spent much of last year getting the car homologated with the ACO and approved by Professional Sports Car. The car will be run by Phillip Creighton Motorsports and engineered by Rosella Manfriatto. The goal is to offer the GT class C5-R as a customer car, an alternative to the Porsches and BMWs in the class.
