Privilege Media Day |
Dreadful Weather |

It was a brave effort to hold the Privilege Media Day at the end of February, but the weather unfortunately more than played its part to try and cast a mournful air over the proceedings – already dampened by news of that awful train crash in Yorkshire. There were some brighter moments from the characters present at Silverstone though, and the pre-season optimism that is always apparent at this time of year still showed through.
None more so than from the Harlow Motorsport and Hopkins Motorsport outfits. The former had new signing Terry Rymer present, along with his partner Adam Simmons, while Paul Fuller and Marcus Fothergill were on jovial form as ever in the second (matching) 911 GT3R. The photograph doesn’t do justice to these entries, hardly helped by one large snowflake landing on the lens at a critical moment. At least the photograph does justice to the weather.
Philip Hopkins was on good verbal form on his first acquaintance with the Quaife. “It may take us until Round 3 to beat the Lister,” was a slightly tongue in cheek remark, but amply demonstrated that pre-season optimism.
Times were effectively meaningless in the snowy / sleety conditions – perhaps the thought of Adam Simmons waiting for Marcus Fothergill (for a two car shot) round the back of the track while the latter waited nearer the pits summed up the futility of testing in this weather.
Privilege are back though, for their sixth season backing the Championship. As Roger Etcell pointed out, “30 of these cars taking the rolling start is one of the truly evocative sights in British motor racing.”
Roll on March 30 / April 1. More news from the Test / Media Day in due course.
