With apologies to Colin Blower’s race partner Edd Sharpe, whose Christian name has two ds, not one.
Blower’s workshop at Hinckley is a hive of activity, trying to get the Ultima ready for the first race. “We’re working seven days a week, until 8pm,” explained the team owner and driver. “If we can have it ready for March 31, we’ll be here, even if that is its first run. We didn’t get the OK from the BRDC until early November, and after the initial design work, we received the chassis after Christmas.
“Jeff Bull Race Engines are building the 6.3 Chevrolet, which is specifically for this car. It will have masses of torque, but won’t be particularly high revving. 6300 will be enough. Jeff Bull is well known for his drag racing engines.”
Ted Marlow’s Ultima company have given this project their full blessing.
