Terry Rymer And Adam Simmons |
Optimistic |

Does Adam Simmons have an inkling of what it’s like to be Terry Rymer’s partner? Geoff Lister has ‘escaped’ from his company, so no more knocking on his hotel door at 3am, and the words “Your pizza, sir.”
Perhaps Terry will be better behaved this year – especially as he’s driving with the Harlow Motorsport boss’s son? “Len (Simmons) phoned me and said there was a drive available, and once he told me what he wanted to do this year and into the future, it seemed like a very positive move. This should be a stepping stone to greater things with them. I’ve still got to prove myself to the team, although I know a number of the mechanics, who used to be at PK.”
After two days at Silverstone in biting winds, rain and sleet, what better than three days tyre testing in Spain? Adam Simmons explained that “we’ve got 22 hours left on this engine, so we can drive solidly for three days. From the testing we’ve done so far, we’ve got a very good set-up on the car, it’s very predictable. When we get back from Spain, the new RS engine goes in. That should have another 15 bhp, but Terry was able to keep with Marino Franchitti on Tuesday (in the Parr 911 GT3RS), so there can’t be that much difference.”
The RS engine apparently has different heads and valve seats, plus a different airbox, which gives a wider torque spread. Remember Rymer in the wet last October? The track was swimming in water, and he was fastest overall, ahead of the GT class cars. Does he have anything to prove? Does he worry about a wider torque spread?
“This year is going to be full attack,” said the former motorcycle star. “We’re out to win. We were on old tyres on Tuesday, but we virtually matched Marino on fresh rubber. The factory cars are going to be the ones to beat, but there are going to be a lot of quick guys out there. But they’ve all got to beat us.”
