Gary Ayles has signed Colin Blair and Gavin Pyper to drive the GA-Janspeed Alfa 156s in the Production class of the BTCC.
21 year old Gavin Pyper and 43 year old Colin Blair make for an interesting pair; the perfect mix of youth and experience? Pyper drove an Alfa Romeo for Gary Ayles in last year’s National Saloon Car Championship, while Blair drove a Nissan in the Independents’ class of the 2000 BTCC.
“We're pleased to get Gavin back and I know that given the right set of circumstances he can do the job properly," said Ayles, of the more youthful member of the team. "I'm also looking forward to working with Colin, he has good experience in the BTCC, which can only benefit the team, plus he shows a good turn of speed as well."
Colin Blair: "I'm just excited to be in the Production class and I think that it’s the class to be in this year. There's exciting races coming out of the class, and a lot of people will be very competitive. I'm interested in getting myself up into the premiere league of British motorsport, and although I looked about at a lot of other series, the BTCC keeps dragging me back! And doesn't the Alfa Romeo 156 look great? I think it's the prettiest of all the Production cars, and I'm an Alfa fan anyway. With the involvement of Janspeed Engineering I think that the cars are going to be very competitive and everyone's here to win. And if it was down to winning by looks alone, the 156 would have it by about three laps."
Gavin Pyper: "I think Gary is going to win the championship this year. We've got a lot to prove from last year, where we showed tremendous potential. I chose to go with Gary this year because now that he's based at Janspeed, he's got all the technical backup to do the job. With the facilities on hand, there's literally all the back up the team needs within walking distance."
