Fiona Pearce at Lister Cars has confirmed the news that was revealed by TotalMotorSport at the Monza Test Days; Tom Coronel will partner Jamie Campbell-Walter in the #1 Lister Storm at eight FIA GT races this season. Lister Cars have now issued a release stating that Julian Bailey will return to the team at Brno and the Nurburgring to deputise for the Dutchman.
Ian McKellar is confirmed as the lead driver in the Tech 9 Lister Storm (a third Lister FIA GT entry), partnering Phil Hindley and Tom Combrinck.
Laurence Pearce explained the reasons for the change in the driver line-up in the Monza coverage on this site. “I talked to Tom at Magny-Cours last year. We talked over the winter. The level of competition – Naspetti, Schiattarella, Bouchut etc – is such that with Ian McKellar not knowing the tracks and not having international experience, I decided for this year to let him lead our first works supported customer team. He can get all the right experience this year, ready for when he joins the factory in 2002.”
Tom Coronel seemed under- (or over) whelmed by the prospect of a drive in the Lister.
