Mixed Fortunes For PK Sport |
Masaratis Win, Pickup Crashes |

There were mixed fortunes for the PK Sport Porsches at the Bill Taylor Memorial Race at Donington on October 22. Jamie and Piers Masarati were in the their regular 911 GT2, while Mike Pickup was partnered by his partner Caroline Lucas in the team’s other GT2 Porsche.
The first start was red flagged after two laps, Jamie then stalling on the restart and having to claw his way from the very back. Mike led, but pitted with a puncture after five laps. A lap later, Jamie had gone from back to front, having a wonderful time in the process. When he pitted for the driver change, Mike led again – but with the other PK entry right on his tail. Mike was due to stop to hand over to Caroline, but….”I was glad it happened with me in the car.”
Something broke at the left rear, pitching Mike into the tyre wall on the right on the approach to Coppice. “I’ve never looked that way before and seen those tyres. But they did a good job. They absorbed it very well, and the doors still open and shut perfectly.” It was a left rear impact, so it’s currently hard to know what did break.
Piers went on to take a comfortable win in the 45 minute race. He’s still very keen to secure a GTO Porsche drive next year. |
