Addison Update |
He's Getting There |
|
Through the good offices of Silverstone Drive, David Addison (racing driver) spent October 26 at Donington, frightening the racing instructors in the latest step towards his racing debut at Silverstone on Saturday November 4th.
"It has been a triumph of mediocrity! I am the new Ben Orza, but not quite as quick," said our man after his day exploring the limits of a Peugeot at Donington. "I didn’t get any corners right to begin with, but I've got my lines right now," he said proudly at the end of the day. So we won't mention the trip along the grass at the Old Hairpin, then…
The patient and the brave for the day were Stuart Moseley, David Mellor and Ken Bowes, who all put their laundry on the line to sit alongside our man. Formula Ford legend John Pratt handled the briefing, while race aces Rob Barff and Michael Vergers both had input into his performance! In between moments of starting to sound like a racing driver (what a scary prospect), Adders did give high praise to his instructors. "The standard of instruction is very high indeed," he reckons.
He also noted that: "It is fascinating to see the sport from this side!" For those without subtitles, that roughly translates into: "It's a lot harder than I imagined and I promise never to be critical of racing drivers ever again!"
The final stage is pre-race testing on the Friday before the race. Isn’t this getting a bit serious? Then on Saturday, Dave Braggins will hand over his pride and joy for our man to race in the Winter Mini Challenge. |
