Australian Race Still On |
Venue Uncertain |

Sebring, Florida--ALMS Asian Le Mans Series Managing Director Dean Rainsford announced here this morning that the Australian round of the series is a certainty, likely on December 8-9, 2001, at a site to be announced in approximately four weeks.
Adelaide is of course not a candidate, but a number of other sites remain in consideration, including Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Perth, the latter already the subject of planning for a future Asian series venue. The historic Bathurst sports car track is not under consideration, in part because its very long straights and high speeds would require an extremely large investment to bring into compliance with the needs of the ALMS racers. Bathurst now possesses straights in excess of those at Le Mans, since the latter track has added its chicanes.
