David Legangneux link has been following the latest developments in the run up to the 69th running of the great race.
The ACO has received 80 entry inquiries, so less than last year (more than 100). These entries are good quality and the choice will be again difficult. There's a record number in LMPs. The entry list should be released "next week".
48 cars will be retained for the race plus the six substitutes for the Test Day.
The Le Mans Legend event, scheduled on Saturday morning, will last 45 minutes, after a Le Mans type start. 160 entry inquiries have been received. Stirling Moss will drive the '53 winning Jaguar type C.
Champion's Audi is expected to be a new chassis, built up in Germany.
The Mopar engine will be back in the LMP chassis at the end of this month at Jerez. But another chassis will continue to use the Judd engine for testing. Oreca use a "pig-iron" [don't know if it's the right word] with the Judd engine so that the car has the same weight at the back as when they use the Mopar, which is heavier than the Judd. It's needed to test the chassis in nearest possible conditions as if it has been run with the Mopar. Three entries have been submitted to the ACO. After Dalmas, Beretta & Wendlinger, three more drivers will be known at the end of the month and the last three on April 15th.
It seems that there won't be any Ferraris taking part at Le Mans. The JMB Giesse team won't enter their 360 Modena that they will use in the FFSA GT series (1st round here in Le Mans this week) and in FIA GT. The team has apparently submitted an entry for a Porsche GT3-R that will be driven by Luc Alphand (French skiing champion), David Halliday (son of the French singer star) and Philippe Alliot.
A Viper, entered by the French Federation, will be prepared by the French team Epsilon, which will also run two Formula 3 cars in the French championship. The Viper drivers could be Terrien, Cochet & Dayrault.
Panoz are expected to test at Spa and at Jarama with Michelin in the near future. The more powerful engine will be in use for Le Mans.
