Alain Menu made his (current) DTM debut at Hockenheim on Wednesday, in a 2000 Opel Astra Coupé. He drove an ex-Uwe Alzen chassis, prior to receiving his 2001 car in good time for the first round at Hockenheim on April 22.
Manuel Reuter and Jo Winkelhock both drove 2001 machines, but very poor weather conditions prevented any meaningful times being set on Wednesday. Reuter ended up seven tenths slower than Bernd Schneider (2:07.98) in the dry on Tuesday, while Winkelhock was a tenth behind Uwe Alzen’s Mercedes (2:24.07) on Wednesday.
The Opel drivers seemed to be delighted with their new cars.
Peter Mamerow crashed his privateer (2000) Opel, but is expecting repairs to be carried out in time for an Opel test at Barcelona next week. Christian Abt was another to have an excursion on Tuesday, damaging his Audi TT-R; it was repaired in time for Wednesday. Abt Sportsline are still building their longer wheelbase 2001 cars.
