Shaun Balfe announced his Privilege Insurance GTO campaign to his sponsors and the local media on March 23, at Belton Woods Hotel and Country Club near Grantham. Shaun is seen with the 911 GT3RS that he will share with current GTO Champion, Mark Sumpter.
“I cannot wait for the first race to get underway,” said Shaun. “We have been clocking up the testing miles in the new car in readiness as this year’s championship is going to be very competitive. Last year there were only a couple of front running cars. This season there are more than a dozen out there who could win in the GTO category.”
Shaun isn’t wrong there. The GTs should comprise a select few at the front, but the GTOs are likely to create 13 thrilling class battles this year. Shaun suggests that a race win isn’t the target at the first round, but that could change once the flag drops.
The launch was headed under the Balfe Motorsport banner, which Balfe has retained this season to run his race campaign. The car is once again being run by Mike Jordan’s Team Eurotech. Balfe Motorsport ran the red Lotus Esprit last year.
