The PK Sport / Ricardo team have secured an entry for this year's Le Mans. Mike Pickup was suitably buoyant this morning, even more so that his team will be the only British-entered car in the GT class.
"It's only just sinking in," commented Pickup. "I was hopeful, and felt we'd done enough, but you just never know. Now we start preparing in earnest to give it absolutely the best shot we can. There is the 'small' matter of the ELMS race at Donington first, but we've proved ourselves at Daytona, and I believe we'll do it in France too."
The team owner was genuinely quite emotional about the prospect of going to Le Mans. He's never publicly said so, but it's what he's always wanted to do. Now is his chance. One Larbre and two Alex Job Porsches - plus last year's winning Taisan entry - are likely to be the main opponents.
Mike Youles will be in the PK Sport Sport / Ricardo driving squad. He was quite low key about it this morning, but couldn't help a cry of glee at the prospect. "I'm going back to Le Mans. That's a great feeling, and I can't wait. PK Sport and Ricardo are an excellent combination to tackle the greatest sportscar race of all. I'm sure we've got a chance of the class win. YES!"
Youles was on a fitness campaign anyway, having been seen with a mineral water in his hand as recently as last week. It seems possible that he might make his way to the gym now - might. He won C2 in 1990, and does want to win GT in 2001. A very quick Scotsman is top of the list to join Mike Youles, with the third driver yet to be decided.
More entry news once the list becomes official. |
