After such a rush to get to the meeting, it was expecting a lot for the second Dome S101 to have a solid outing. Sixth in Qualifying was a very good start to the car's racing carer, but Val Hillebrand experienced a nasty fuel fire during the warm up. He felt 'warmth' and looked down to find his leg on fire!
He rushed into the pit-lane (and was rightly excused a speeding penalty) for attention and the fire was put out, but the fuel cell leak couldn't be fixed in time for the race.
The other Dome at least managed a finish after several dramas - following several others in testing and qualifying. John Nielsen drove one race stint in considerable pain (after his qualifying shunt), the clutch played up, he and Katoh had a spin...but they did finish sixth.
The series needs these two cars running reliably. It shouldn't take long. |
