Ray Mallock Limited had confirmation of their Le Mans entry (for their Saleen S7R) last week; now comes the detail behind their ELMS project.
The RML example (they designed and developed it) of the S7R will be driven in the ELMS by Ian McKellar and Bruno Lambert. At Le Mans, these two will be joined by Johnny Mowlem.
The Belgian Bruno Lambert was a GT winner at Le Mans last year, in the Taisan Porsche - on his debut in the 24 Hours.
Ian McKellar (“Junior”) will be making his Le Mans debut this summer, but his drive in the RML Saleen in the ELMS proves that he has well and truly bounced back from the disappointment of not driving a Lister Storm in the FIA GT Championship. He's a race winner in TVR Tuscans and the Privilege GT Championship, and will be very keen to prove himself at international level.
Johnny Mowlem needs little introduction. He set a record that is unlikely to be beaten - winning every round of the Porsche Cup in 1997. He drove a Skea Porsche in the 2000 ALMS and at Le Mans, finishing second in the 24 Hours. He has a regular drive in this year's ALMS, in the White Lightning Porsche.
Ray Mallock described the ELMS as "a natural choice to compliment the Le Mans 24 Hours, a race that means so much to everyone here at RML."
He added that, "Bruno, Ian and Johnny are very capable drivers who understand the RML commitment to teamwork and winning."
The Saleen S7-R took victory at Sebring last month, beating the factory Corvettes (the Konrad car, above). These two S7Rs are the only GTS entries for the ELMS at Donington this weekend, so it ought to be Saleen win number two. Number three at Le Mans? Or even number four, if a Saleen wins at Jarama in May.
